Why Christian Brothers School

A Distinctive Catholic Education in New Orleans

Christian Brothers School offers a distinctive Catholic education for boys and girls in PK3 through seventh grade in New Orleans. Rooted in the Lasallian tradition, CBS combines challenging academics, meaningful relationships, broad opportunities for involvement, and a school environment designed around the needs of students at each stage of their development.

For more than 65 years, Christian Brothers School has prepared students not only for success in high school, but for lives of faith, responsibility, leadership, and service.

Known, Supported, and Challenged

At the heart of a Christian Brothers education is the relationship between teacher and student.

The Lasallian tradition recognizes that students learn best when they are known personally, supported individually, and challenged to become their best. At CBS, teachers know their students beyond grades and test scores. They recognize their strengths, notice when they are struggling, and provide the encouragement and accountability young people need to grow.

These relationships extend beyond the classroom—to athletics, clubs, performances, service, retreats, school traditions, and everyday campus life. The result is a school community in which students are known, supported, and expected to contribute.

Academically Challenging by Design

Christian Brothers School provides a rigorous, grade-level accelerated curriculum that develops strong academic foundations while preparing students for increasingly independent learning.

Students are challenged to think critically, communicate clearly, solve problems, develop effective study habits, and take greater responsibility for their work as they progress through the school. Academic rigor at CBS is supported by something equally important: teachers who know their students. Faculty can recognize when a student is ready for greater challenge and when additional guidance is needed.

Our goal is not simply to prepare students to gain admission to excellent high schools. It is to give them the knowledge, habits, confidence, and independence to succeed once they arrive.

The Right Environment at Every Stage

Christian Brothers School offers a distinctive educational model across two New Orleans campuses.

Lower School | PK3 - 4th Grade

At the Canal Street Campus, boys and girls learn together in a nurturing, academically engaging elementary school environment. Students build strong academic foundations while developing independence, confidence, friendships, and a love of learning.

Girls Middle School | 5th-7th Grade

The Canal Street Campus provides girls with a middle school environment designed to encourage academic confidence, leadership, participation, and personal growth during these important developmental years.

Boys Middle School | 5th-7th Grade

At the City Park Campus, CBS continues the mission begun by the Christian Brothers in 1960: educating young men through rigorous academics, faith formation, strong mentorship, responsibility, and brotherhood.

While each program has its own character, all three share the same Lasallian mission, academic expectations, and commitment to educating the whole person.

Opportunities to Discover Who They Are

Education at CBS extends well beyond the classroom.

Students have opportunities to participate in athletics, performing arts, academic competitions, clubs, service projects, student leadership, and other extracurricular programs. These experiences allow students to discover new interests, develop talents, take healthy risks, learn to work with others, and become part of something larger than themselves.

With more than 35 extracurricular opportunities available across the school, students have room to find the activities—and the people—that make school meaningful to them.

Forming the Whole Person

A Christian Brothers education is intentionally holistic.

Students are formed academically, socially, physically, and spiritually. Prayer, liturgy, service, reflection, and Catholic teaching are integrated into school life, while students are encouraged to develop responsibility, empathy, discipline, leadership, and concern for others.

Following the vision of St. John Baptist de La Salle, CBS seeks to provide a “human and Christian education” that prepares young people not only for the next school they attend, but for the people they are becoming.
